Discussion with
Don Karl (Berlin), Ganzeer (Cairo),
Fred Meier-Menzel (Weimar/Cairo)
Moderation: Marina Sorbello (Berlin)

November 15 - 7:00 PM
Studio 1 - Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin, Germany
Contributing individual perspectives, the participants in this discussion reflect on the ways in which visual languages have influenced the public appearance of the protests while also transforming themselves over the course of the Arab Spring. Don Karl, a graffiti writer, co-organiser of the Common Ground Gallery in Berlin, and publisher, will present the research from his publication Arabic Graffiti (From Here To Fame, 2011) and artist and activist Ganzeer will talk about his activities in Cairo. Fred Meier-Menzel will introduce the research project Campaigning Cairo, which addresses the 2011 election campaign in Egypt by questioning the underlying political and aesthetic strategies of representation.
